Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Cat & Whisker respects your privacy. This page explains what information we collect when you visit the site, why we collect it, and what choices you have. It works alongside our Affiliate Disclosure page, which covers how we earn commissions — this page covers data.

Information We Collect

Analytics. We use Google Analytics (via Google Site Kit) to understand how visitors find and use the site — pages viewed, time on site, general location (city/region level), and device type. This data is aggregated and doesn’t identify you personally. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this information; you can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by adjusting your cookie preferences below.

Email list. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address through Kit (formerly ConvertKit). We use this only to send you content updates and occasional product recommendations relevant to cat care. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Comments. Comments are currently disabled sitewide, so we do not collect names, email addresses, or IP addresses through a comment form.

Security and performance. We use Wordfence for site security, which may log visitor IP addresses to detect and block malicious activity. We also use Smush (image optimization) and LiteSpeed Cache (site speed) — neither collects personal data. UpdraftPlus creates site backups and does not process visitor data.

Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs standard technical data (IP address, browser type, referring page) for security and troubleshooting purposes.

Cookies

Cookies on this site fall into three categories:

  • Essential cookies — required for basic site functionality (WordPress session handling, security).
  • Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics to measure site traffic and behavior.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies — set when you click an affiliate link (for example, to Amazon), so the retailer can credit us if you make a purchase. These are set by the retailer, not by us, and are covered by their own privacy policies.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time.

Affiliate Links

Cat & Whisker currently participates in the Amazon Associates program. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links do not give us access to your payment information — that’s handled entirely by the retailer. As we add other affiliate partnerships, this section will be updated accordingly. See our Affiliate Disclosure page for full details on these relationships.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected to:

  • Understand which content is useful to readers and improve the site
  • Send newsletter updates to subscribers who opt in
  • Protect the site from spam, abuse, and security threats
  • Meet legal and regulatory obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Your Choices

  • Email subscribers can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
  • Analytics can be limited using browser cookie settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on linked above.
  • EU/UK/California visitors have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA, including the right to request a copy of the data we hold about you or to request its deletion. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.

Third-Party Services

This site uses the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy governing how they handle data:

  • Google Analytics / Google Site Kit
  • Kit (ConvertKit)
  • Amazon Associates
  • Wordfence

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the site grows or as we add new tools and affiliate partnerships. Material changes will be reflected with an updated “last updated” date at the top of this page.

Questions?

If you have questions about this policy or want to exercise your data rights, reach out at [your contact email].

Implementation notes (not for publishing):

  • Replace [your contact email] with the same hello@/contact@ alias used on the Affiliate Disclosure page, for consistency.
  • Replace the two [Affiliate Disclosure](#) placeholder links with the actual internal link once both pages are live.
  • If you add ConvertKit’s own tracking pixel/cookies beyond form submission, add a line noting that under “Email list.”
  • If you later add GA4 IP anonymization, Consent Mode, or a cookie-consent banner plugin, this page should be updated to reflect the mechanism used.
  • Bolded subheads map to H3s under the page H1 in Spectra, consistent with the Affiliate Disclosure page’s heading structure.
  • Not legal advice — worth a quick read of current Amazon Associates and Google Analytics policy terms to confirm nothing’s changed before publishing.
  • When Whisker (or any other program) goes active, add it back into the “Affiliate Links” section and “Third-Party Services” list.
